Zephirine Drouhin, Bourbon, medium pink RIR score: 8.0 out of 10. Parentage: unknown Hybridized by Bizot Introduced in 1868 Long pointed buds open to reveal cerise pink petals with a white base. They are double (25-30 petals), and loosly petalled, 3 inches in diameter, with a moderate damask fragrance. Foliage is a soft, light green on a vigorously arching/climbing growth with no prickles. Blooms are mostly bourne singly and on last years growth. Very heavy bloom in the spring with light repeat through summer and fall. The plant is vigorous and very easy to cultivate. It can be grown as a pillar rose, over an arch, or as a moderate to large open shrub. Will make a good hedge rose but should be kept away from walls as it will attract black spot. It will tolerate some shade, for example on westerly aspects. ZONE 5-10. |
